The Hand Behind the Wonder

Updated: May 23, 2022

ROYGBIV. Colors of the rainbow; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. As a young girl, colors always intrigued me. The variances of shades and hues seemed infinite. They seemed to possess an energy all their own and caused my emotions to spike all over the place.

Research shows that musicians can see notes and sound in color. Accountants have been known to see numbers in color. I actually see words in colors. Since I was a little girl, the words on a page have evoked a rainbow of images within stories. Words come alive, letter by letter, and jump off of the page, casting various tones and tints in their shadow.

As a creative, this super power enables me to spin a tale with colorful accuracy. Hyperboles and excitement are filled with vivid reds. Peace-filled moments have tints of blue. When I see anger in the description of a character or the scene of a story, orange is the overarching shade. And gentleness portrays itself in soft yellows and pinks.

I believe the hand of God is behind this wonder. He is, after all, the creator of all creatives. Knowing that my brain would need to be massaged with color to fully engage and envelop the essence of what I would write and read, he took out his box of paints and filled this earthly canvas up with wonder.

I’ve taken color to the next step when studying God’s word. My bible is called Inspire and it is filled with graphics and white space to write thoughts and to doodle. So apropos, as color inspires me. It uplifts me and encourages me to push away the gray of the day and color a portion of it with encouragement to others.

After a massive storm the other day, a rainbow quickly followed. I don’t believe that the rainbow was an afterthought, I believe it is a reminder from God that He is the ultimate creator and that color was important to Him.

Take a look around today and notice all the colors around you. I hope it makes you feel more alive than ever and that you are both comforted and awakened.

Creatively His, Sue:)
