GLOSSOPHOBIA

Word of the Day: GLOSSOPHOBIA

Fear of Public Speaking

Every one of us are fearful of something. Fear. Such a little word that can cause big havoc in our life. An over-arching goal in my life has been to have a ‘sound mind’. God has not given us a spirit of fear. Leaning on those words has helped me through many difficult times.

Having struggled with anxiety most of my adult life, fear or the appearance of fear has wormed its way into my mind and body at such inopportune times. For those of us that combat anxiety, we know that it lurks in the background, waiting to ambush us when we least expect it. It truly can come out of nowhere, dragging fear along with it.

Fear wears so many faces. It is a master of disguise and has many names. Glossophopia; fear of public speaking,

fear of confined or crowded spaces and the list goes on. These are just a few that cause anxiety.

There are external sources that can affect how it shows up, but many times there is just no rhyme or reason.

I decided a long time ago, though, that I won’t keep looking over my shoulder. I refuse to walk on eggshells, waiting for anxiety to strike. I will live my life in peace. Knowing that, just like so many other things in life, anxiety will come and anxiety will go. It is an unwelcome guest in my house.

Creatively His, Sue:)
